Hapag-Lloyd installs LNG storage tank on megamax newbuilding
Hapag-Lloyd has installed a large liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tank on its LNG-powered 23,600 teu containership, Berlin Express.
The LNG tank was installed during the shipbuilding process at Hanwha Ocean in South Korea. The Berlin Express containership is the first of 12 newbuildings with 23,600 teu and dual-fuel propulsion.
It was successfully delivered to Hapag-Lloyd on 14 June 2023.
According to the shipping company, the 400-metre-long and 61-metre-wide ship is among the world’s largest vessels.
The vessels will be outfitted with fuel-efficient engines that will run on LNG, but will also have enough tank capacity to run on conventional petroleum.
